ATMedia Ethernet Multipoint Encryption with integrity protection

Worlds first Ethernet Multipoint Encryption with 10 gigabit and AES GCM integrity protection support released.

With the new version 3.2 of its Ethernet Encryption product line, ATMedia GmbH released the world’s first interoperable multipoint encryption system for all Ethernet speeds from 10 mbps to 10 gbps.

Since the ATMedia encryption system uses AES Galois Counter Mode (AES-GCM), Ethernet multipoint networks can be protected against manipulation- and replay-attacks for the first time. This high level of protection could be guaranteed by less performing and less efficient IPSec solutions only up to now.

Another product feature is the seamless support of Ethernet broadcast and multicast scenarios. This greatly improves the efficient and secure implementation of bandwidth and quality demanding services like voice, video, terminal access and storage over WANs.

The ATMedia Ethernet multipoint encryption solution enables a significant simplification of WAN infrastructures leading to a considerable cost reduction. Network services with different quality requirements can be aggregated to a single secure WAN link. With the support of MPLS and IP V6, the investment into network security will be protected for the future.

ATMedia 10G High-Speed Encryption approved for classified data by the BSI

The ATMedia 10G Encryptor has been approved by the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) for the transmission of classified data according to the classification level "VS - Nur fuer den Dienstgebrauch (VS-NfD)", EU und NATO restricted.

For the first time, the ATMedia encryption system allows to encrypt fastest Ethernet network links up to 10 gbps efficiently and plausibly secure.

In contrary to IPSec based solutions, the 10G devices are working at full wire speed and with minimal delay and jitter. This guarantees that there is no impact at all on real-time services or terminal services.

The encryption at network layer 2 makes the system the perfect solution for the protection of complex MPLS networks or IP V6 based networks.

In addition to the Ethernet layer 2 encryption, the 10G Encryptor offers a special operating mode, optimized for data center interconnections. A certified combination of the ATMedia Encryptor and a TDM Multiplexor allows the approved encryption of storage networks like FibreChannel, Ficon oder Escon links.

ATMedia and secunet start cooperation

secunet extends its SINA high security solution family to include a Layer 2 encryption system. The new SINA L2 devices achieve encryption rates of up to 10 GBits/s, enabling data transmission in near real time. With SINA L2, secunet meets the specific requirements of the market, where Layer 2 and IP encryption are increasingly used in combination. SINA L2 is the result of a joint venture by Essen-based secunet Security Networks AG and ATMedia GmbH from Saarbruecken.

While the previous IPSec VPN products from the SINA family ensure flexible encryption for use in any IP network configurations including suitable client products, the L2 components are designed for point-to-point encryption in dedicated networks (MAN, WAN, SAN) and offer the best possible protection in this area. They can be connected to existing network infrastructures without any changes through encryption at network level (Layer 2).

SINA L2 is based on a platform from ATMedia GmbH in Saarbruecken and is supplied as an OEM product. Integration into the highly scalable SINA Management offers customers a standardized view of all of their security components, together with effective configuration and key distribution. The partnership between ATMedia and secunet was contractually established on July 14.

ATMedia releases encryption system for modern storage area networks

The ATMedia Fibre Channel Link Encryptor safeguards WAN based Fibre Channel storage area networks.

In high-availability storage networking scenarios, where Fibre Channel storage and backup systems are linked between distant sites, the actual data are usually not protected against eavesdropping and manipulation. An attacker will be able to access and manipulate most critical data unnoticed and could gain control over the core IT infrastructure of the company or government agency.

The ATMedia FC Link Encryptor prevents these incidents effectively by a transparent encryption of the storage data transmitted via the WAN or MAN. The integration of the encryption devices is most simple by installing the devices between the local storage network and the WAN (Inter Switch Link or Trunk) and does not require any change of network infrastructure. The transparent operation preserves the compatibility of the Fibre Channel equipment deployed. The encryptors work with 1 gbps and 2 gbps Fibre Channel links. AES with 256 bit key length is used for SAN data encryption at full link speed. The additional packet delay is in the range of a few microseconds only.

Based on the recently introduced ATMedia 10G Encryptor hardware platform, ATMedia plans to introduce a 10 gbps Fibre Channel encryptor model shortly.

ATMedia is the only company worldwide with a complete product range for high speed encryption from 155 mbps to 10 gbps. All ATMedia encryptors are completely designed and built by ATMedia in Germany.

Product informations about the ATMedia FC Link Encryptor are available under http://www.atmedia.de/english/pdfs/fc_encryptor_flyer_en.pdf.

New versions of the ATMedia Encryptors approved for German authorities, NATO and EU

The new version 2.0 of the ATMedia Encryptors allows the encryption of Gigabit Ethernet and SONET/SDH networks up to 2.4 Gigabit/s.

Beside the new optimized 1RU 19" chassis with redundant power supplies, environmental monitoring and new security features against tampering were implemented.

In standard operating mode, the encryptors work with no additional encryption overhead and guaranty 100% usage of the network bandwidth.

The new "tunnel mode" allows the encryption of any point-to-point Ethernet connection regardless of the network provider's equipment. Changing the provider is now possible without changing the encryption.

For very high security requirements, the "Traffic Flow Security Mode" is used. In this mode, the pure existence of network traffic is being hidden by filling up the spaces between user data with dummy data, thus generating a constant stream of data on the network.

All version 2.0 ATMedia encryption devices are now also available in releases that have been approved by the German Information Security Agency (BSI) for the transmission of classified data (VS-NfD and NATO restricted).

ATMedia Gigabit Encryptor approved for German authorities

The ATMedia Gigabit Ethernet Link Encryptor has been approved by the German Information Security Agency (BSI) for the transmission of classified data.

The ATMedia Gigabit Encryptor is one of the first systems available on the market that is able to encrypt Gigabit Ethernet connections at line speed. Unlike conventional VPN solutions, the ATMedia device works at network layer 2 and therefore transparent to any higher network protocols. This makes the encryptor particularly suitable for MPLS based networks. The encryption algorithm is AES with 256 bit keys.

Typical applications of the ATMedia Gigabit Encryptor are the cross linking of sites over dark-fiber, the connection of storage arrays (Fibre-Channel, SCSI) and the protection of IP networks with a high load of real-time traffic like video/voice over IP.

The systems are already in use by German Federal authorities.

ATMedia introduces fastest network encryption system built in Germany

With the new OC48 version of the ATMedia SDH encryptor, there is for the first time a german built device for securing SONET and SDH fiber optics networks with 2.4 gbps available.

SONET links with a speed of 2.4 gbps (OC48) are currently used by most telcos in their backbones and provide a transmission capacity of about 2400 DSL links or 37000 voice channels.

Recently OC48 links will be used more and more for the interconnection of company sites or authorities (Packet over SONET or Ethernet over SONET). Additionally there is a growing demand for high speed SONET links for high quality cinema and TV productions (HDTV). With the ATMedia SDH SDH encryptor these links are reliably secured against tapping and manipulation.

The ATMedia SDHCrypt product series now supports all speeds from 155 mbps to 2.4 gbps.

ATMedia SDH Encryptor for 622mbps high speed links

In addition to the ATMedia SDH Encryptor for OC3 links, ATMedia now offers a new faster version for high-speed OC12 SONET/SDH links.

The ATMedia SDH Encryptor is able to secure 622mbps OC12 lines at link speed and without any loss of quality. The system encrypts the data at SONET/SDH path level, keeping line and section overheads unaltered thus assuring compatibility with SONET/SDH equipment and networks.

Unlike solutions doing encryption at higher protocol levels like IP or TCP, the integration of the ATMedia SONET Encryptor into the network is done by simply inserting the devices into the network. After installation, the Encryptor works without any user interaction.

Because of the encryption at transport layer, the ATMedia SDH Encryptor offers an "over all" protection of the communication infrastructure. Side band attacks and fraudulent use of management- , maintenance- or other interfaces of the communication hardware will be reliably prevented.

The ATMedia SDH Encryptor can be deployed in all network scenarios where PBX devices, routers (POS) or switches have to be connected via SONET/SDH LAN, MAN or WAN networks thus delivering VPN functionality to standard communication equipment.
